WHAT ARE TOOTH EXTRACTIONS
Although Dr. Dasha Frias Landa aims to save and maintain your natural teeth, there are cases where a tooth might have to be removed to benefit your oral health. A simple extraction removes a tooth that's visible above the gumline, like a tooth that's decayed or damaged beyond repair. We can also remove wisdom teeth and impacted teeth that do not have enough space to fit into your mouth. Regardless of why you need a tooth extraction at Alliance Family Dentistry, we will give you the best treatment and sedation to keep you comfortable. Afterward, you have the option of bone grafts and collagen plugs to preserve the area and prevent bone loss in your jaw. Contact our Naples, FL office to schedule an exam if you have any teeth that are causing you pain.

What to Expect from Tooth Extractions
First, Dr. Frias Landa will provide local anesthesia to numb the area near the tooth being extracted. Different types of sedation might be used, depending on the extent of the extraction, and also to help you stay relaxed if you have any anxiety. To complete a simple extraction, Dr. Frias Landa will loosen up the tooth using a special device called an elevator before removal. Extracting wisdom teeth typically involves making incisions into your gums to get to the tooth. If necessary, the tooth might be broken into smaller pieces so that it can be taken out. When the tooth has been removed, Dr. Frias Landa will stitch your gums closed. She can also use a bone graft or collagen plug to fill the hole where your tooth was to encourage healing and strengthen your jawbone.
